4 pot tuning ahhh,,,,,,,,,,,,,compared to what we used to do with the ZS's to ekkk out 5 bhp this turbo Malachy is soooooooo much easier.
Mine will be at about 450hp on the day and the quaife makes a huge difference, also on the road I run race logic, used to tell you boyz how well this piece of kit works. One of the after market Honda ECU manufactures (Hondata) have now released there own version of traction control, which works just like the race logic system, research the RLTC system.

I had no idea these latest Seat's made this much power from the factory, that's impressive for a FWD and a base for loads of potential.
I wouldn't discount Ross, he has RWD VTEC and the possibility of a super charger, I know how well the combination works.

Some very interesting information in this thread, the technical knowledge has come on leaps and bounds since our early days in the Z’s.
Managed to overcome the tramping with new stronger engine mounts and a rose jointed front cross member, which the Honda fraternity call a traction bar, removes all the rubber bushing and is replaced with rose joints. With decent suspension and geometry set-up you can use a fair amount of that power, also, we used boost by gear, whereby you can dial in say a total amount of boost at say 15 psi then have 5 psi in first or the minimum amount the waste gate spring runs at then increase the boost in each gear at set increments, so you have full boost and power in the higher gears, where you know it can be used.

Oh my the good old day's when it was tean ZS lol

Dave and Si got pretty good at showing faster more powerful cars the error of there ways lol

For drag racing, if your on road tyres do as Si said, weight transfer for a FWD is easy to see, as you pull away the rear of the car drips thus taking away traction up front, counter this by pushing the weight forward and limit the way the back drops.

On slicks, not the same at all, up front you go harder to allow the slicks to work the way they should.

If it's your first time just turn up and make no changes and get used to the car on the track first, get the jelly legs runs out of the way and see if you can nail a 15.1 in your car as this is pretty much the bench mark, if you can then look at changing stuff.

it will be on slicks and i damn well hope it'll do under 15 seconds as its not exactly standard!
Drag Radials or Drag Slicks as they are not the same?
What power is the car making and rough weight?
What size slicks are they?
Tubed and scewed or just drag tyre on a street wheel?

Drag radial will need to be run at min 14 psi as they are designed as a steel banded tyre with normal side wall, car set-up will not be the same as a full slick.

Power and wieght will determine slick size, too large a slick will pull the car down into the track and sap the power if it's too big I would say if you're under 300hp then a 23x15 should be a good match for a ZS

I run 23" x15 and 24.5 x 15 and 24.5 x 13 full slicks depending on which car I race, for the CRX I will run a 23 x 15 at about 7 psi which is enough to net 1.6 60 foots and leave me enough rolling radius for gearing to reach 142mph at the top of 4th at 9000 rpm.

Yes, would leave the 9” BTCC circuit slicks at home, you will probably end up breaking a drive shaft with wheel hop, they work amazing on a race circuit but require heat cycling to get them up to operating temperature, on the drag strip they will not like VHT Glue, which is used to aid tractions.
888’s seem to work OK at POD nothing amazing but slightly better than a road tyre, the compound needs a good burn out to make it sticky, other circuit slicks don’t like the burn out and loose traction off the line for some reason.

Good to see you Perry, the photo shoot worked out well mate, car looks great and you have the best platform ever to nail that 9, I think the 9 will come sooner than you think too.

My god, the money I used to spend in the early days making the car faster, handle and stop was stupid really, it was a learning curve but it was lots of fun.
Over the years I’ve acquired loads of lovely parts, some from deals others donated after I’ve done a favour, these days I sell parts to buy what’s needed so self funding, not completely but enough to make it more affordable. Also, tuning is a big part of the costs and that’s a little easier having access to dyno’s.

I remember way back then Kev would PM me and tell me about a new mod he had done but was keeping it low key till tested at POD, Dave and I seemed to be discussing some cunning plan to find a few tenths, pioneering days for the Z’s as a lot of what I read on the site now was hatched by someone many years ago and the posts get lost in the archives.

Tell you what Perry, I’ve watched you progress over the years and realise just how engrained we’ve become in the drag racing scene, I recall a conversation we had, when it was time to stop, after that you went onto major gains and development, herd that speech from many other racers over the years and seen them all come on leaps and bounds and are now some of the quickest racers in Europe in there retrospective class, it’s more than in your blood.

Perry

You seen this circulating, Speed Factory just went 9.8 @137 in there FWD NASP, similar engine as Daz is building for his Honda Insight.
Even the 4 pot FWD cqrs are dropping into the 9's now, watch the vid and tell me about the gear changes, almost sounds auto but it's not.
Quite a few of the Honda lads are at POD the same day for a club meet so should be some good racing going on.

I drove a 335 Diesel when I was looking for a replacement for the Merc S Class I had, a lot of car for the money and just do everything so well. I went for the Merc CLK320 CDI V6 diesel turbo in the end as it just seemed to fit more in line with wat I wanted, I had it mapped to 280bhp with 400ft/lbs and loved it, still not a quick as a 335 though. I will have a 335 at some point as I do like them a lot.

Dave

I agree, it's the natural progression from high HP FWD's, I switched to the AMG for the same reasons as you have the BMW, come rain or shine it just does everything so bloody well with lots of scope for more reliable power if you should want it.
I'm not ready to part with the CRX yet though, it holds a certain something that the Merc or any other car would return, I love driving it hard, it's a real drivers car which needs lots of fiddling to set it up right to get the best from it.
I'm out in the CRX this weekend at Shaky for some testing at the new power level, so should be all dial in for POD meet.

Dave

I don't have the 320 CDI anymore I sold it and replaced it with a C55 AMG mate
I ran the 320 CDI down the strip and it ran a 13.5 with the traction control activated, the C55 is another level though, about 400bhp and 400ft/lbs and a lot of fun with a V8.
You should run the 335i mate, I'm sure it will be a 13 something car and a lot of fun, the RWD are just so bloody easy to get off the line.

I've already run mine down the 1/4, it's not a pretty sight though, the Merc's traction control system is terrible at the track.
The increased level of grip on the drag strip confuses the heck out the Merc's TC system,
You launch and it starts to spin off the line then the glue starts to work and you grip but the TC cuts in too fast leading to a major bog off the line, I wasn't able to cut anything under a 2.3 60ft and a 13.3, so, I turned the TC off but being a Merc it doesn't completely disable it, this tends to lead to the opposite problem, loads of spin off the line then the TC kicks in and bogs just shy of the 60ft, very frustrating. It's possible to switch off all the traction system via a hidden menu but this disables everything including ABS and steering control but it's all about driver and car at this point.

Anyway, that aside, I'm was planning to race the CRX at POD day as it's the same day the CRX UK club have the anual POD meet so I can't not race it.

I was out on Sunday in the CRX for the first time this year, last event was snowed off.
Was only bracket racing and I set my dial in at 12.3 seconds, what did I run, 12.295 doh
Was good to be back out racing, car is now back in the workshop having new bushes up front as the solid mounts have killed them,
Also having the new wide band installed and then back onto the rollers for some more power,
Almost forgot, needs an MOT somewhere in amongst that lot

Honda Drag Series at Shakespeare County Raceway, good field of racers and sponsors on board to support.
Also involved with UK FWD Drag series at POD
And Uk Outlaw FWD shootout this is the UK and Europe fastest FWD darg cars and is a one day event, cars running 9.4 will go faster this year.
