Hi All

I have cobbled together a FAQ for the ZT260 based on posts here and my experiences as a way of capturing useful info that should make us owners lives easier.

I would really appreciate your feedback and comments.

I have pasted some comments made here as part of the info inside and if any of you object please let me know and I will remove them. Also please correct me if I have screwed up!

I already realise I have missed out an important topic - engine oil! I will add than soon.

If you would like me to add another topic say so but can yo make my life easier by sending me any relevent liks text and photos.

The site is www.spunagain.co.uk

Cheers

Excellent site - I learnt some new stuff from it already.

Only comment I have is that, contrary to your article on fuel, I notice a definite performance improvement and crisper throttle response on Optimax compared with 95 unleaded. Not dramatic enough for me to fork out for Optimax every time though (tight b*****!).

Are we OK to put a link to your site from ours?
I take my hat off and raise a glass to you Mr S. :beerchug

You are truly a martyr to our cause (in a good way) and you have created a marvelous and eminently usefull resource with your wonderful site.

Many thanks from me and i'm sure the other 800 or so 260 owners.

Kindest regards,
Jim.

I concur with this, the 260 does have knock sensors and does benifit from higher octanes. After a period of using only optimax I was in an area where there was no super unleaded and I had to use the cooking grade BP, the car was pinking for the next few miles as it re-mapped it's self to the lower grade fuel. After about 10 minutes or so the pinking had gone and I could use full throttle again.
I don't have the pleasure of owning a ZT 260............YET!! A very well presented and informative site for 260 owners.

Just a thought, What about a Q&A section!!

A big  from me. :beerchug
Fantastic!

I am glad this has teased out this sort of issue! Alicat, thanks for this - are there any technical dexscriptions of the 4.6V8 which mention the antiknock sensors?

Cheers

Philip you happy for me to put a link in the newletter?

There is also a Two-Sixties website coming, we can plop one in there too if you are happy.

Tim
Excellent work, and it's reassuring to read an FAQ that isn't split over two webistes and contains so much information that it is practically unuseable (like the MGF FAQ and FAQ2).

Off topic (sort of)...

My clutch problem has reappeared, the pedal has dropped to the floor again and no gear is selectable. Replaced the master cylinder already (£450.00) and now i'm being told that the slave cylinder is the next most likely culprit - this is a gearbox out job apparently, so it is wise to change the clutch (the 3rd most likely cuplrit) at the same time - my local Stealer wants £1050 for the job!

I have a call out to Steve Tyler of British Legends at the moment, he has yet to do a ZT 260 clutch but is an ex-MGR technician and has recently carried out a gearbox swap on my F for a very reasonable sum indeed, so i am hopeful i can get this figure down to something more manageable - afterall, the vast majority of the cost is labour.

I've put this here because my 260 currently has 82,000 miles on the clock which is pretty high for these cars (imagine all the fuel this car has drunk over the past 3 years!) so this may be a heads-up for you guys for the future.

Hi Tim

No problems with the links!

Scarlet, I will probably add a high milage page at some point and include issues like Clutch etc. Keep us informed of any nasties you come across like shortage of parts and where you get them from.

Cheers

Will do - one of the few benefits of being a 'mileage pioneer' is being able to help others by raising the occasional warning flag. :)

'mileage pioneer'

What you don't prefer 'old man 260' then. :D
The clutch pedal problem has happend to me on 2 of our rover 800's and they were both due to the cylinders although this time it didn't cost me anything as the first car is sat on the drive waiting to be dismantled so I nicked the 2 year old cylinders from that.

I though the 800's ones were expensive at £100 each, plus fitting of course
Knock Sensors

Hello All,

The ZT260 does not have knock sensors. Any performance gains from changing fuels is strictly due to the fuel itself, and not due to any increased timing. Cheers. :MG:
Not a 260 owner but great work

You are correct, after reviewing my Mustang manual it is the 4V engine that has the knock sensors not the 2 valve
Hi All

A bit of an update.

I have added an interesting links page and a buyers advice page.

I have added pages for sticky throttles and delaminating badges and updated the page for the alternator belt as well as a few other odds and sods.

Please let me know of any good links I have missed especially dealers you can recommend (that I have missed).

As always I am open to advice and information to add.

This is a superb lot of useful information for someone like me who has only just bought a 260!

One thing that would be really helpful is if you could give an idea, on the insurance quotes, of where in the country those quotes are for, and if the car is garaged?

I live in Epsom, and have a tiddly 30's garage, so have to park on the drive, but with a completely unmodded car, 5yrs NCB, clean 18yr licence, aged 35, no accidents, unremarkable profession etc, etc am struggling to get fully comp below £750!
