This thread will probably have a limited appeal, but while trying to find out how much various bits in the ZS180 weighed, I couldn't find much info. So, now I've had a chance to start pulling my car to pieces, I've commandeered the wife's best digital kitchen scales, much to her delight, and meticulously weighed everything that I've taken off the car. Hopefully someone now or at some point in the future will find this useful.

I've only been able to weigh the smaller stuff so far. I'll need to borrow some bigger scales to weigh the bigger bits. There are also lots of bits still to remove, so I'll add these as I do them.

The car this applies to is a MK2 ZS180 hatch. Weights in kilos.

Well I found it quite interesting!!! Thanks for posting.
Surprised the CD changer weighed 2.5kg, mine didn't feel that heavy when I took it out.
Any idea on the total weight saved? too lazy to add up!

Some dedicated work there.

You can weigh heavier stuff on bathroom scales, if need be weigh yourself and then hold the items and weigh yourself again.

34.198 kg for that lot.

I read somewhere on here that the rear seats are worth 30kg, spare wheel 10kg, carpet another 10kg and I'm guessing the passenger seat is 15kg or so. Means that 100kg saving is easily achievable.

Car certainly feel quicker, but probably partly because it's now so noisy inside, although ironically much less rattly. Not something to do if it's your daily driver!

front seats are over 20 kilos each, about 24 iirc, my carbon seat weighed 7 inc the mounts and harness.
My kv6 zs weighed 970 kilos, theres 14 kilos of sound deadening stuff glued to the floor inside that is relatively easy to remove.
950 kilos is possible but your driving a bare chassis with no heater....actually theres some good few kilos in the heater matrix and fan assemblies under the front passenger side glovebox.

You can get the cars with production panels done to sub 900 but its hard work.

You can get to 1040 with full twin diaginal fia spec cage and seat fitted with fuel (less driver) but a lot of work.

You will be amazed at the weight of full wiring harness for the car, this can be reduced to a few kilos in total but it is expensive as I found when had one comissioned from specialist that produces them for Formula based cars.

We are looking a f/glass bonnets (£180) rear doors (£350) Bootlid (£150) but getting a firm to comission moulds is painfull. I have a bonnet and its good and have one rear door mould being made at present.

We would like to get the race car to 1000 kilos with kage and seat but it starts to cost a lot to get the bits. There are some cracking altornators and staters that are very light weight but silly money so as ever a compromise is required.

Hi Pete , I will Defo take a bonnet and the rear doors, what about the front wings or is it not worth the effort?

I will be turning my attentions to the harness myself, luckly I have built a few bike and car harness's do can tackle it myself.

Quick question do you run different arb's?

Cheers
Paul

its all about cost vs gain, i knew there was more to find but as pete said , does the cost outweigh the gain....could you spend the money elsewhere and find more performance ?

Dave/Peter...its your guys posts that have been my inspiration so far. It's the thought of 970kg and some mild breathing modifications that made me buy the car. I'm not quite hardcore enough to lose the heater though.

A few more bits to add to the list today:

Passenger foot insulation 0.908
Rear door cards 4.616
Window winder, surround & clip 0.106
Window strips rear 0.304
Rear door handles 0.266
Rear lock pins and wire 0.050
Front door card insulation 0.104
Front door cards 5.874
Front door handles 0.238
Tweeter & surround 0.266
Front speakers 1.190
Steering wheel shroud/trim 0.597
Driver footwell trim 0.182
Passenger footwell carpet clip 0.023
Rear washer hose 0.303
Boot/fuel release trim 0.041
Boot release plastic 0.005
Fuel release plastic 0.003
Gear lever gaiter & surround 0.185
Front centre console (exc switch panel) 0.909

That takes the bits I've listed so far to 49.855 kg. In addition, the larger bits that I'm using estimates (or Dave V6's figures) for takes me to 123kg of weight removed. If the 1235kg kerb weight of the hatch is correct (I don't think I've ever seen a definitive answer on that one), then I've got another 142kg of stuff to remove to get to 970kg. The car already looks empty....! What else can I ditch? Does the 970kg include removal of air con compressor?

When you think how much the window glass weigh, then lightweight battery, aircon and radiator removed, lightweight wheels, abs etc removed lightweight exhaust, heater unit, one of the wiper motors, washer bottle, sound proofing, all makes alot of weight more so that what u have done so far.

We removed all of the heater and aircon system and fitted a inline blower as used in the MG Trophy cars (ZR & TF's) makes a big differnce but means shares in rain and fog x ;-).

Half the problem for the ZS as David will agree we have limited series to run a V6 in and the reg are about balance and so we are look at around the 1140 with driver (driver assumed 85 kilos)

my hatch was 1200 kilos standard on weighbridge.

p.s just cutting the webbing out of the bonnet saves a few kilos, same with the tailgate.

Thanks for the other suggestions. I think air con out but heater in will be best for me.

Weighed most of the larger bits now:

Passenger seat (exc' sliders and buckle) 14.95
Sliders 3.123 (x2)
Buckles 0.45 (x2)

Total front seats = 38.95kg

Rear bench 11.5
Seat back small 5.6
Seat back large 9.6
Headrests 0.676 (x2)

Total rear seats 28.05kg

Spare wheel 13.28
Parcel shelf 3.10
Headlining 1.80
Boot carpet 3.00
