Perhaps not helpfull but it cost me near on £400 do DIY it, not including the tools but including the thermostat change so £400 is a bit low to expect to get the job done for you.
But don't forget the garages will get the parts cheaper than you can get them for. The top two specialists on here have both quoted me £499. I can get reprofiled cams from Rsm as well as the belts for £700 so what I'm saying is that these places saying £700/£800/£900 are all over charging as it's not necessary to have to spend that much
So i assume he has them ready to go when you arrive, and your old ones go back into stock to be reprofiled? or does the job take longer as they need to send off your cams and have them worked?
£700 all in does seam like a cracking deal, if i decided to get the belts done on mine i would rather pay a little more and get the cams does as well, to be honest i always thought the cams on top would take the total to around 1k.
It is all stuff to think about, as
1. My belts were due last august
2. I have fitted high lift cams to engines in the past so i know what to expect.
i had the cambelts and waterpump done on a zs180 which i owned about 7 months back.
the garage in question (german prestige cars, south shields),also did a full mobil 1 oil sevice, antifreeze change and fromt brake pads.
Mine was £500 for the full 90k service by Lates (www.lates600.com ) a couple of years ago when I had my ZS180. It would have been £525 if I didn't have the ITG Maxogen as I wasn't charged for an air filter.
i got quoted £760 from a dealer...this was the best price i could find(i live in southampton)i literally phoned for months, only to be greeted with,oh thats a bloody nightmare,to be fair when i bought it i knew it was gonna be a **** expensive job,so i went with it,it was in the garage for about 3 hours, then got a call to say,oh by way i needed a new thermostat/housing etc,i ended up paying £988...not happy, overpriced *******s..but shes done now,and i must be mad coz the zs is an underated motor....
It's a time-consuming job but for a competent mechanic in an equipped garage it shouldn't be a "bloody nightmare". Annoys me when they give you superlatives when you just want an honest quote. Anyway, you got it sorted so that's a result.
I think I paid £420 in total belts/water pump and a few bits n pieces.
I took it to British Legends in Southend... they did a good job so my son had his belts done there also.. Be sure to get a quote from them.. dont just take my word.. http://www.britishlegends.co.uk/
