Can forum members form a list of prices paid just for a cam belt change on a zs 180.

I have a potential buyer for the zs depending on cost of cam belt change.

The gent in question has heard close to £800-£900, where as I told him £400-£500 from one of our resident forum mg specialists is more accurate.

Could members post their locations too?

Thanks

I paid £525 last month. That was for tensioners etc, water pump and thermostat.

That was in the west yorkshire area.

Perhaps not helpfull but it cost me near on £400 do DIY it, not including the tools but including the thermostat change so £400 is a bit low to expect to get the job done for you.

But don't forget the garages will get the parts cheaper than you can get them for. The top two specialists on here have both quoted me £499. I can get reprofiled cams from Rsm as well as the belts for £700 so what I'm saying is that these places saying £700/£800/£900 are all over charging as it's not necessary to have to spend that much

What is the profile of the cams?

£700 seams reasonable for the full job if it includes having the cams sorted! IMO

They're 270 cams reprofiled by piper on an exchange basis

So i assume he has them ready to go when you arrive, and your old ones go back into stock to be reprofiled? or does the job take longer as they need to send off your cams and have them worked?

£700 all in does seam like a cracking deal, if i decided to get the belts done on mine i would rather pay a little more and get the cams does as well, to be honest i always thought the cams on top would take the total to around 1k.

It is all stuff to think about, as
1. My belts were due last august :D
2. I have fitted high lift cams to engines in the past so i know what to expect.

Mine was £500 for the full 90k service by Lates (www.lates600.com ) a couple of years ago when I had my ZS180. It would have been £525 if I didn't have the ITG Maxogen as I wasn't charged for an air filter.

It's a time-consuming job but for a competent mechanic in an equipped garage it shouldn't be a "bloody nightmare". Annoys me when they give you superlatives when you just want an honest quote. Anyway, you got it sorted so that's a result.

This is why I diy'd it, I knew the garages round here would take the **** as its not a massivly common car. Most mates in the trade argue blind its only got one belt as they've done one before and it only had one belt!

Thermostat and water pump are an absolute must on these cars, dont get carried away by a cheap quote that does not include them, its a false economy.
