After WW2 the UK was still the 2nd biggest economy in the world, by 1980 it had dropped to 7th, we have now clawed our way back to 4th passing Italy years ago and France recently. We have a higher GDP per head than Germany, Australia, Canada, France and one of the few growing economies out of the top 10 countries. Why?

Easy.
1. We are all selling hamburgers and sandwiches to each other, when we should be producing things.
2. We are squandering all that North Sea oil, which should be spent on our infrastucture.
3. We are living on a massive credit spree (2.0K for each man, woman and child in the country. The greatest in the world.)
4. Massive tranches of land are being sold for housing, replacing factories and the like, in favour of one-off windfalls for the owners.

I could go on, but not had me tea yet!

we only became 4th biggest economy due to the fact the euro fell by around 15% .
when we have the 4th best hospitals in the world ---then we will have something to shout about.

Yes and also in most other countries you have to pay a massive amount in insurance and medical costs. GDP is measured in US$ and figures are pre Euro. This is a site worth looking at
http://www.economist.com/ Also it does say "Recovering" not recovered, yes there is a long way to go, it just shows how bad the other 196 countries are.
