I'm still here.... well abroad but still have the Zed and a little more time lately to enjoy her.

Nice to see the board is still up... we probably getting a bit thin on the ground now. And they said it wouldn't last after MGR went South. :):brekkie:

Very clean example of a ZS180.

Like the mods done!

How do you get on with HD lights?
(Some said these run too hot for standard light units??)

Heh, thanks - I kept it stock for the first 5 years and then the exhaust rotted so I decided to give it a proper big bore system but I didn't want it howling so stopped at the Cat * I've done the 4 branch tubular manifold thing before but didn't go there on the Zed, its tight enough under the lid and I didn't want it too noisey. I got the ITG induction top piece off a member a few months later and it sat in a box. Later got a carbon BMC for £60 and finally put it altogether this year for a bit of fun. Wish I had done it 5 years ago now - breathing and pickup definately better.

Headlights I have gone for high performance 'blue' but not HID as the stock lights were a little poor. I think there was an official HID option on the headlamps originally (should be some infos on .org if not here).

* I've now got a second chrome exhaust surround (lower rear valance) from a member and so I could go the full duplex at the rear which suits the car... not sure it would add anything to the performance though. Will see.

I've just got a second interior light unit as (strangely) there are no coutesy lights in the rear so I will be fitting that next weekend.

FB? Do we have an XPower Facebook channel now? Whatever next. Will have to have a look see.

I feel kind of part of that... I was very active when I was self employed working from home 2007 to 09 and I had just gotten the Zed - it was easy to look in when I was having a break. Then I went to work in an office for 5 years (long story) and boards, FB, Youtube were banned on the internal LAN. I dropped off on a night too, moonlighting graphic design for extra cash, I never seemed to have time.

Made a bit of a comeback in 2014 when I started work on the car again (had some time at weekends) and then we moved house and I could walk to work so the Zed didn't leave the drive for 18 months apart from turning her over. Hobbies and board dropped off altogether.

I guess we all have lives and families and move on to other things especially if we change cars... I've got a Legacy as well (family bus) and I spend some time on the Scooby boards to help maintain it. Never enough time. I need to win the lottery. Would never be bored.

Very nice mate - must admit there are couple of these on the island here and I think if I had the cash and the time it would be either an R/S4 or an RS3 but I would debadge it and go sleeper. I've had a BM 328 coupe in the past with 200 bhp and M suspension upgrade - that was fun but having had two Scoobies now I'd like to try the Audi before I get too old.

This is the family bus is quite nice, Legacy Type RE with uprated naturally aspirated flat four engine. Pro Drive tweaks to the suspension, full electrics, leather and moon roof. Kind of like a 5 series but better built :);)

Notice its got the same headlight design as the Zed... both designed by Peter Stevens.

That's a nice solid motor for the family runabout :)

A tuned debaged S4 B8 would be a big shock to PPL lol

Yep I like the sleeper thing a lot. Comes from my old job when I drove an unbadged 3500 Vitesse - once did Leeds to Sheffield town centre in under 12 minutes for a 10-9. Not sure I would be allowed the lights behind the grill these days though. We probably shouldn't go into that :) another life.

Legacy was tweaked by the dealer here - it's got around 165 bhp from the 2.0 ltr and bags of torque and cold air induction to the grill helps. It's a bit slow off the line with the four wheel drive to lug along but solid at speed and cruised for 8 hours at 100 mph when I drove it down through France to Spain in 2014. I made a vinyl graphic for the States of Guernsey parliament and stuck it on the back window, worked a treat. :) Old habits die hard.

Been on here since 2003 originally, keep an eye on things but haven't posted much for some time.

I've had 5 Austin/Rover/MG Rover cars starting with the Montego 1.6L, then the Rover 214SLi and then my first ZS, a 120 which was stolen and stripped when it was a couple of months old. It was replaced with another ZS 120 which I had until I traded it in for the Mk II ZS 180 which I have until tomorrow (Wednesday) . . . .

I was involved in a slow speed accident on Saturday morning . . .

Then in the evening while parked outside the ZS was rear ended . . .

It's pretty much guaranteed to be a total loss. Can't really explain how upset I am about this . . . I've had this car from new and we have done over 138,000 miles together.

Can't really think clearly about what I would replace it with other than a Pearl Black Mk II ZS 180 . . .

Twice in one day... break a match or something now - they say trouble comes in threes. The good news is that there are still some low mileage 180's about that with a little work could be brought back up to polish. I posted this one yesterday I saw on eBay - 6 days to go. 53K miles

Its a myth that parts cannot be found. I had a static front end dink late 2014 and I talked the insurance into repairing it - initially they didn't look at the car itself and wrote it off. I was at a junction stationary, car opposite set off towards me across the path of traffic, got broadsided and rolled into my front nearside. It needed new front bumper, n/side headlight, n/s wing and the associated body kit elements, fog lights, new radiator, internally otherwise OK. Body shop had no problem getting new parts via the MG dealer here on Guernsey - all new they told me (and they look it).

and post repair:

18 months later

I guess with yours it will depend on the sub frame / chassis at the rear - if that's bent then (officially) repair will probably go beyond the value. I know its a torture but you could accept the cash, buy it back and make the repairs under your own steam. At least you would know who has driven it.

Best wishes

Thanks Paul.

I think it would be a big job to repair it, the rear "wings" have partially folded under, you can see the high spot in the photo, its the same on the other side.

I also have nowhere to put it if I did buy it back and I'm time poor at the moment, my brother suggested I buy it back and break it.

I have been collecting a few parts over the years, I have 2 new headlights, new air con compressor, various sets of suspension bolts for front and rear, spare set of refurbished bonnet latches, etc, etc. I had planned on keeping the car for some time. Last year it had new clutch, cam belts, water pump, thermostat housing, new plennun and set of coil packs, in addition to the usual service type stuff which included new MGR brake discs all round and MGR pads. Also had to replace the centre brake light and battery.

To add insult to injury . . . I had 2 Vredestein Quatrac 5 205/45 R17 88Y XL (AS) fitted on Saturday afternoon, I'd ordered them last week online - £195, they literally have half a mile on them.

I have found a 180 in silver with 62k miles not too far from me, I will probably go have a look on Saturday, at least I know what to look out for.

Sorry to hear that. I came home to my MK2 Escort written off one night many years ago - ironically my mum had ordered me to leave it at home because I was going out for a drink... would have been worth a small fortune now.

Good luck on Saturday. Hopefully you will get another decent 180. If it doesn't work out let me know as I will have a look at the spares (sure others will be interested in these too). No pressure though - would rather you get another Zed and keep them :)

11 and a half years on this forum to date.

Lost count of the number of MGS I've owned.

The two best by far were my firefrost ZS 180 MK2 and the MK2 ZS 180 supercharger development car with the bonnet bulge.

Yep - I'm still here. done a bit on the Zed today, just moved house so haven't had chance for 5 / 6 weeks. Topped up fluids and Sheddists clutch reservoir - 2005 to 2017 with only one cylinder replacement - well done Nigel!

Join date 15-10-2002 I've owned my first 2003reg ZS180 Saloon Trophy Blue and then in between a Rover 114 GTi which I don't have anymore and a list of boring people carriers until finally got my hands on a red 2001reg MG ZS180 Saloon... still on it and kicking asses around south Europe on the timeless beast.

BTW have a look at the MG SV sub-forum for my help request.

See some familiar names around but not too much on forums anymore.

Happy new year to everyone !!!

Excellent, keep going mate. I am kind of the same on Guernsey, I've always like the Zed for what is is, even the basic old school nature of the interior, suspension etc. But its also a lot of fun here when I open her up and waste some hatchback on the coast roads. Most people dont know what the car is and assume its some imported Subaru (lot of imports here). Several times people have just come over to look at it when parked up. I might take it to one of the car shows here next year or maybe even one of the sprints although I would have to add some safety equipment for that and I am not ready to MOD that far at this stage - don't really have the time to do this effectively.
