I seem to remember that this was supposed to be the new, cost effective, way into motorsport.
Taken at Brands about 1983.

There was a report on that sort of malarky on our local TV news some while back, but it seems a lot have all gone on to ride-on mowers which means they effectively are cheapskate Karts.
I have a seriously hopped-up 14'' Suffolk Super Punch, with a squezy bottle to replicate a supercharger for the tough bits of grass at the bottom of the garden, so come and have a go if yer think yer hard enough.....Not to mention me 8000rpm McCulloch strimmer (Some serious torque twist on that  )

I seem to remember that a lot of serious 'modding' went into some of those mowers.

And I thought that they just wanted to get the grass cut quickly so that they didn't miss much on the TV.

Just had a quick look at the site that you mention.
I see that the endurance race ( 12 hour) is still there.
