ive nearly clocked up 800 miles on new bike and cant believe ive left it this long , kids always came first and although it was never a priority i could have afforded one at any stage but now after riding again i cant believe ive deprived myself of this pleasure for so long

The reason I believe that 16yr olds SHOULD ride a moped is because of what you have said, they have no road experience/hazard perception so they in no way should be allowed to ride a bike capable of breaking any speed limit! Yes it still hurts when you fall off but no where near as much as when you fall off a cbr600 at 90mph!

I must say in your defence tho that mopeds do teach only 2 throttle positions- ON or OFF and mybe why I seem to have an obsession with speed as I pretty much have driven all my bikes this way! But I learnt a lot about the physics of riding bikes by starting small and gained some road craft on a bike that wasnt going to get me caught out and out of my depth!

I as a lad wanted to start on a 125cc bike but my old man insisted that I had the MT5 1st and though following his advice I moved up through the engine sizes without killing myself! (I have however fallen off each and every bike I've owned!)

my observations

recently was at a set of traffic lights waiting to turn left with indicator ON two cars in front in gear waiting for lights to change , when 3 mopeds pulled up directly behind me 3 abreast saw them expected the worst as all kids messing about .good job i did because as lights changed one shot up my inside before cars even moved other two shot down right hand side , wasnt much of a gap i can tell you on the left but they didnt care "MUPPETS " comes to mind .

theres clearly arguements for both and as said views will differ greatly im sure but it does make me wince to see some of these "idiots" loose on the road , another one recently guy on moped on open road with helmet high on head answering his mobile while riding along couldnt believe how stupid that was . it beggars belief some times it really does . and rincewind totally agree no leathers no ride period!!!!!!!!!!

a true biker will ALWAYS protect himself as best he can , and leathers is compulsory in my book .sorry for being off topic

this thread needs more pics !!!
