The pic shows a split pin not a cotter pin? Were you talking about a castle nut and split pin then? If so shouldn't be a problem. Re use nut with a new pin even. Done this loads of times.

I got hold of some from MrMegapack M10 castle nut 1.25mm pitch thread.
Came with split pins too.
Thought I should get some in case the old nut is too coroded.

I've now replaced the control arm, was a very easy job to do.
Only took an hour and no swearing either.
Very easy job, especially compared to replacing a rear door handle.
