Hi

I've got a weird noise in my MG-TF and was hoping someone could help! The background is:
- Last thursday i had smoke from the engine and the car started leaking thin, pink-ish coloured liquid onto the road
- I took it to a garage who told me it was the head gasket and said they wouldnt touch it and that I should take it to a specialist
- The specialist garage took a look and said it wasn't the head gasket but a cracked expansion bottle- so they replaced that
- Ever since I've collected it from there there's been a really weird intermittent buzzing/whining noise coming from the engine block, like someone's using a lawn strimmer

The characteristics are:
- mostly only happens when the engine is up to temperature (but not always)
- seems to be set off by going round corners
- only happens about once every ten-fifteen minutes on a journey
- changes pitch when I brake- the pitch gets higher
- stops when the engine is virtually stopped

Does anyone have any idea about what this could be? I've taken it back to the garage but of course, its intermittent and refuses to happen when they've got it! Any pointers would be much appreciated

Cheers guys
Penny

I haven't heard one but my first thought is "does the new coolant tank have a low level warning?"

not an airlock where it wasnt refilled by the garage properly.

The ZS and ZR's with K series, are a b, to refill and if you dont do it properly you get air locks.

Think I'd take it back and let the garage sort it.

Not coming from the water pump area???
