Hi

If you have been on the board today, you will have noticed that posts have been sparse from me - this is why.........

I noticed last night that the Mitsubishi Lancer Register were having a track day at Castle Combe. I mentioned to Max that I fancied going down and seeing a few of the people and cars I used to know from my EVO days. I also thought that it would be best if I went in the Trophy (sneaked my helmet with me).

On arrival I was surprised to see some very nice machinery - EVO's in all mod states - Scoobies - TVR's - Lotus Espirit - Ferrari - Quick Fords - Integrale - Rover 600 Ti ect. After socialising for a while I thought it prudent to have a GO. Darin the orgaiser said that as I was a late comer, I had to go out with an instructor. No problem.

Anyway, Clive from Warrenders (instructor), was patient for 3 laps and then said, "pull over". He then demoed 3 laps to demonstrate the track lines better. He then left me to it, I then stayed out for a good 12 laps after.

After driving the ultra quick and easy to drive EVO, I found the Trophy initially more difficult to drive. However, by the end of the first session confidence was building and the car was giving a damn good showing. However, there were only a very cars that I could overtake. The one thing I did learn is get all your braking done before cornering and then get on the power early (don't lift off mid corner or the car will snap back). But and it's a big but, I was enjoying myself. :D

On my third session, the track was becoming greasy (light rain) and just after Quarry a TVR Cerbera span (I was keeping up with it, too) and at that point I entered the paddock and called it a day. :D

Good decision, as a little later a Scooby driver who was on the ragged edge lost it after Quarry and closed the session for a while, during which time they dragged his very badly damaged car away (will require a new shell).

High lights of the day.
1. Getting Quarry right. :)
2. Riding in Warrenders very - very Quick EVO VII.

Lows.
1. Not having a ZT385 :(
2. Not having an EVO. :(

Summary:

The Trophy is a good car, but it makes you feel inadequate when other fine cars are around.

Cool

Sounds like you had a great time :D

Keep an eye out for the next issue of MG World magazine to find out what Rob Bell, myself and some other mad MGF owners were up to a couple of Wednesdays ago...

Why not come on down?

Andrew

I think I know about your day, I was the reserve for the Trophy. Really disappointed that the other Trophy owner became available at the last minute. Don't think I'll get involved again!

Good to see the EVO boys yesterday - why not come on down to Castle Combe in July on the Kernahan day?

What about Rob and Andrew G?

Would love to, but i have a MAJOR financial year coming up, what with 2 tours to France and a third 10 day tour of Germany coming up (the latter takes inthe Nurburgring and ends up being part of the 'old timer' parade through Berlin on closed roads with a police escort! - how cool is that!):D There's Silverstone coming up as well (more X-Power goodies!) and on the 12th this month i am doing the MG Regency Run (London to Brighton) which should be a laugh.

Anyway, the upshot of all this merriement is that financially i am gonna be crippled by September (worth it though, even if it does mean missing LeMans this year) and i could well do without having to replace my tyres unnecessarily!

Also, i am looking into a ZS 120 as a 'runabout' at the moment so there is another potential drain on my precious MG 'fun'ds.

Nice photos Jerry. Looks as if it was a good day.
Noticed in one or two photos that the trophey appears to have less 'body roll' on corners than the scoobies.

The guy who took them has done a good job. Added some more pictures - the Norris Design car is featured too. :D

The Trophy wasn't bad - but the EVO's were storming - I just hope the ZT385 is their equal or its a EVO VIII RS version for me!

The Norris Designs car is something else. The article in Max Power had photos of the 188mph run through the Hatfield tunnel - the fast speeds were beyond the shutter speeds of the camera !!!!

The thing went past me as if I was stationary (so did a lot of EVO's). Power sliding around the Bends - people were speculating when he was going to have an OFF!

It was a little bitter sweet that Jerry, as it would have been terrific to have had you along for this little bash :(

Will definitely give you first refusal should there be 'a next time' :)

Very interested in this Castle Combe day - whats the low down: when and how much? :D

I've just looked where that is, and that's a long way!!

I'd be happier with Donnington Park!! :D

Understand - NORTH is NORTH

Understand Andrew - but is Rotherham North? Martin K's day should be good though - Warren Hughes is invited and I know that there maybe some management petrolheads there as well!

Rob - If there is a next time - then please ask.

Jerry
