Hi all,

First of all the water pump goes while in a traffic jam - again... Managed to get it home. Then last night noticed light coming through the lounge windows. Stuck my head out the door and one of the headlights had come on. Just one. I wasn't even in the car and the keys were in the kitchen! Personally I blame aliens.

So I go out, turn the ignition on and try everything to get the headlight off. All to no avail unfortunately. So I decided to disconnect the battery to save it getting drained. So I open the boot, disconnect the battery and then..... closed the boot again. Instantly realised that to open the boot again the car needs power doh!

So any ideas how to get the boot open as I'm not going to be able to get it recovered to the garage to fix the water pump if it won't move at all?

A spare battery and a pair of jump leads would work I think, connect the +ve in the engine bay to the point where the +ve comes from the boot, and the -ve to a good earth.

If its a Mk2 without an external lock it will have an emergency boot release cable.
Drop the rear seats and look for a small plastic handle on the inside on the boot lid trim on the drivers side.

Looks like this:

Sorted. Didn't even know the rear seats could be dropped! Just pulled them forward, crawled inside the boot - could see the handle clearly, gave it a pull and Bob's yer uncle.

Thanks Steve
