I've been looking at a mg zr 1.4, 53 model, describes as having fsh and done 68,000mls. I've emailed to ask if belts and and cam belts been done and the owner doesn't know. its a 1 owner car too. so i just wondered should the belts and head gasket not have been done by now on this type of engine ,or would the service book not mention these two items at this mileage.. confused :(

The head gasket won't have been done unless it failed.

The cambelt should have been done either on age or mileage.

Generally if it does not say that the belts have been done, they have not. It should be stamped in the service history. When selling a car, most people use 'dont know' as no!

If he'd had the belts done he'd be screaming about it. "I don't know" just doesn't cut it. It means he's trying to mislead you..... so buyer beware!

Recently bought a Streetwise with the service book all fully and properly stamped. However, the car still had its original, 2004 dated Valeo pollen filter, which, after 65K miles was more like a solid lump of air blocking crud.
