Rally Supercar Day at Castle Combe - 27th July

RALLY SUPER CAR DAY
Paddy Hopkirk will open the Feature Rally Stage with a Works Mini at the upcoming Rally Supercar Day at Castle Combe Circuit on Saturday 27th July 2002. The event contains a mixture of action on the track and in the paddock with activities and attractions to suit everyone interested in Rallying.

Special Guests and Rally Teams
At time of going to press, Paddy Hopkirk, John Price, Oliver Clark, and Andy Gwynne have confirmed along with the MG Xpower Extreme Rally Team. Several other teams are interested with a possibility of an appearance from the Ralliart Europe Mitsubishi WRC team and Peugeot Sport UK. Russ Swift will be there doing his popular donut displays and precision driving throughout the day. Tony Mason will be commentating on the feature stage as well as performing a few interviews with guest drivers and teams attending the show.

On Track
On the track, owners of rally cars and road going rally specials get the opportunity to have spirited drives around the circuit in track sessions. Track sessions last 6 laps and are run with 12 cars at a time and cost just £20 each. This is an excellent opportunity for rally teams to get their support crews and sponsors into the car in a safe environment at minimal cost. For car clubs it is a chance to have exclusive sessions for their members to enjoy and gain further exposure to help promote the club. 2002 will also see a track parade for Quattros and Stratos owners clubs.

Entertainment
We have many new entertainment attractions at this years show including Playstation Rally Games, Rally Simulator and a Tamiya Radio Controlled Rally Car track. For those who want to go a bit further there is the opportunity to get strapped into a rally car for a white knuckle ride around the track with a rally driver at the wheel.

Feature Rally Stage
The feature rally stage is the highlight of the event. Rally Cars are started from under a Rally Arch and progress around an untimed Tarmac Rally Stage at 2 minute intervals. Many of the rally cars participating are exceptionally rare and seldom seen in rally competition today making this part of the day a real treat for rally enthusiasts.

Rally Rides by MG Xpower Extreme
There will be 3 JWRC MG Rally cars there performing rally rides throughout the day on an all new rally stage using part of the perimeter road. This gives attendees the chance to ride in a copy of the car Gwyndaff Evans is currently campaigning in the JWRC.

Car Clubs
From Stratos to Subaru, Mini to Metro 6R4, there is just about every car club with cars related to rallying present with some excellent displays on view to the public. Over 80 Mitsubishi Evo’s were parked together last year representing just one car club. With nearly 20 car clubs in attendance this year there will be no shortage of club stands and displays to visit.

Rally Cars
Historic, Classic, Group 4, Group A, Group B, Group S!, Group N and WRC. Clubmans and Ex Works examples of almost everything that has been rallying over the past 30 years are there to see on display. From Rallycross, the ex Martin Schanke Xtrac Escort will also be back.

Traders
As well as sizeable Manufacturer Displays, traders will be offering rally related goods to the attendees of the show. Model rally cars, Tuning Parts, Decals, Rally Videos, Radio Controlled Cars, WRC Clothing etc.

Advance Booking Only – Book NOW to guarantee your space
Anybody wishing to book track time, trader space, paddock parking pass or if they have a rally car to drive or display on the day should visit the event website http://www.rallyday.com to secure a place. Track sessions, which are currently selling at a high rate, are pre booked only and paddock access is strictly limited to pass holders only on the day so it is important to pre-register if you want an active involvement. The event organiser, who is very interested in hearing from anyone with a WRC or rare rally car to bring, can be emailed at [email protected]

Spectators
General Admission is available on the day and is £8 for adults and free for children under 16.

I attended this event last year and enjoyed it - if there is at least 10 people wishing to go and show their I will book in a stand for "THE XPOWER & ZED CAR FORUMS" So let me know on this thread ASAP!

May be interested. Although it is in the school holidays it may clash with something else.

Sounds like a good day though, could be linked to a couple of days in the Cotswolds.

It's a little way off yet but my diary is looking clear at the moment.

Certainly sounds like an excellent opportunity to show off the ZEDs and have some high octane fun! :D

You can pencil me in.

Hoping to be OK as previously mentioned.
Should be an excellent chance for a good get together.

If we are to have a stand, does this mean there will room for a BBQ?

I should think a BBQ would be OK, John.

Need a bit more commitment before I ask for a stand though!

What around 10 names............

This is from the organiser of this event:

Hi Jerry

I can provisionally put some space for 10 cars nearby the MG area. You will need to confirm numbers & get payment sorted by the end of May so we can finalise paddock layout.

FYI

MG X-power Extreme Rally, the team which runs in parallel with the works team, should be bringing 3 rally cars with them. They will have 2 cars operational all day doing rally rides (£25 per run on the stage), one person having a ride when the next gets strapped in, with an additional backup car should they get any problems. There will hopefully also be a local MG dealership there so it all looks promising.

I will be there with both the ZT and Trophy or if I'm away just the one with MAX. need 8 more - so come on - your cars will not be out in the back water with the lesser clubs but alongside the BIG boys..

So we have:

Jerry - ZT190
Max - Trophy
JLD - ZS or ZR?
Jo-Bo - ?

Maybe we could get Martin K's ZT260???? Or his MGF there - anyone from Kernahans out there????

Once I get a minimum often names I will go for it. Then ask you to make cheques payable to Max later.

Deadline for 10 names - end of April.

Sure Jerry - put us in your diary too with the ZT - thought we were away but we haven't booked anything yet and it's at the beginning of the 'holiday' we have booked off, so we just won't go anywhere until the Monday!

:D

Sounds like fun!

Snetterton Clash

They have 6R4's ect - didn't realise Snetterton clashed though, but hang on this event is for Saturday - you can do this and Snetterton, as the BTCC is on a Sunday (except for qualifying). :D

Oh well lets see if we have 10 by the deadline - I'm now committed if numbers build.

JIM

The day does not involve Rallying - just some of the specific machines on show and a gathering of like minded souls - check out POST #1.

I really wanted at least 10 owners cars, which we seem to be having difficulty getting. So far 5 families - 6 cars. Need 4/5 more before I commit. Just over 10 days left to decide.

Any more thoughts on this one - we need a few more really. I suppose we could go with 5 cars - but it will look a bit naff against the 100+ EVO's. :(

Only a few days to make up your minds?????
