Has anyone had any experience of the track days at RAF Binbrook, near Grimsby, hosted by Javelin Motorsport.

They organise one every month or so and I was thinking of going sometime when my work commitments ease up a bit.

I've only done three track days - 2 at RAF Kemble (used by Top Gear to film etc) and Castle Combe. See http://www.jerryflint.net/Kemble.htm

The beauty of using an airfield venue are the run off areas and wide runways/peri track. The down side can be the abrasive surface of the track and/or ant fine chippings that may damage you paintwork if you follow other cars too closely. Damn good fun - gives you great confidence!

Also, recommend you take your own helmet rather than borrow one (they look awful - hygiene).

Have a look at the Lancer Register Forum - www.lancerregister.com some very knowledgeable types over there. They recommend instruction rather than expensive car mods as the best way to get extra speed from the car!

I've also updated the Trackday companies under links on the main site. What's Javelin's Url and I'll amend the list?
Javelin Motorsport's URL is

The circuit looks good from what I can see.

The airfield was used in the film Memphis Belle.
Must upload pictures of my ZT190 again in the gallery after the trackday at Binbrook years ago.

Resulted in a set of warped brakes. But as JLD, F, MatC and I discovered we were faster that a lot of quicker cars.

NB: This was the start of XPF trackdays.
Done a few rallies at Binbrook back in the day and it got progressively rougher each time we went... They were ripping the lanes up at the time though.

I'm actually suprised that there are any lanes/track to use on trackdays... How much is it for the day? I would go Cadwell with Javelin if i were you instead... :)
HAHA. Don't i look the fool now. Sorry, didn't realise it was an old old thread. :slap:

Of course not:)How were you to know?
I thought it was odd, as nearly all the hard surface has been removed from Binbrook, thread is from 2002 doh.
I feel the music from the HOVIS advert coming on here soon.

Er, er look at the date? :)

Best keep on your toes - may unearth a few more. :D

As mentioned it was a Resurrection Shuffle - great eh?

Yes, get the HOVIS music up - I suppose the only thing then is that it wasn't difficult to get people to do these things unlike today.

Was the one of 3 or 4 trackdays we did as a Forum in 2002. 2002?

Yep - had a look at Google Earth and most of it has gone.

What have they used the hardcore for?

I still get regular emails from the company that ran the trackdays at Binbrook. A few years since they have run any there though.

Haha. Yeah i got caught out by the date... Never think to check before posting - i will now though! :D

I'm not really sure what they were using the hardcore for... However it must have been worth their while to do it. Back then they were using Binbrook 4-5 times a year for a single venue stage rally. It was pretty good too for a clubman and sometimes had 20 mile stages from the one airfield. :)

Then they still used it whilst they were pulling it up... It became quite nasty - flying past huge slabs of concrete was hair raising.

Javelin are still going though. Think Cadwell, Elvington and Tockwith are the main ones in that area now. :)
