Hmm Might have to get mine upto Stattlers at Sheff for a GIAC map:dddc::carstart::evil:

Then again not being able to lay power till 4th/5th in the wet will make it a complete PITA - but maybe the thought of 350 ponies and about the same in lbft torque will corrupt me in the mean time!!!;):evil:

Yes Dave - that's a wind up!;)

Mines like that, bet yours is too dave? You have to learn to feather that throttle. I need a quaife but they don't come cheap. What happened to the civic? O you won't get 350 from just a remap(stage 1), you will need zorst, filter, better cooler, upgraded hpfp. Stage 2 - stage 2+ will see 350-380bhp.

Dave - joker I wish it had a gt3076. Lol
The civic story is a long & quite boring story really, but the short version is that i wasn't happy with the ride qaulity, paintwork etc, added to that i was starting to want more than 200bhp (although the VTEC engine was a real giggle when you were in the mood) and it was pretty much good night vienna for the CTR!

As for my LCR i bought it with a turbo back Miltek already fitted, and i have since added a Nuespeed induction & some H&R springs to it (Stattlers fitted em!), and i am booking it in in the next week or two to have a SALK done aswell as dogbone bush and lower engine mount etc as wheel tramp is a problem even now! I know 350bhp is optimistic, but that's the sort of output Stattlers told me i could expect as with me already having the TB zorst and induction - adding a remap would effectively make mine Stage2, and an RS4 valve and HPFP and another map tweak STAGE2+ which seems to get most about 380bhp+. Maybe i'm wrong on this but i'm sure i'd read that the FL LCR doesn't really need a different intercooler as it has a larger one fitted (same as the Audi S3's apparently) as standard!?? Regardless of that anyway it pretty damned quick now with what i'd guess is 280/285'ish BHP on tap!

Want to try and get what power i have down now more effectively because the horrible "bang bang bang" when you nail does my head in and it's only a matter of time before it leads to a breakage somewhere if i keep allowing it - hence the money on bushes and ther SALK etc coming soon!

i have thought about a proper mechanical LSD aswell, but with the car already having that XDS system on board (which i know is no match for a proper LSD), there is a popualr opinion that a mech LSD is a waste of time (especially for a road car!) so i can't convince myself that spending ÂŁ1500/ÂŁ2k IS a good idea tbh, and for the way i drive tbh it isn't REALLY necessary either if i'm really honest!

All this talk of bhp/ton and 1/4 times at pod - feels just like the old XPF days ;) Lol!!

I might have to drop out, crappy reason really but i'm skint already!!:getcoat:

Not a definite yet, but it's an expense i could do without if i'm honest!

Was a good day, and yeah, thanks to Sie for arranging this/kicking it off!

Nice to catch up with folks i/we haven't seen in ages, and altough i wasn't overly bothered about running if i'm honest, Once i got there it seemed rude not to give it a go:lol:

My PB was a 14.4 @ 102mph, which is Ok i guess but i feel the car has more to give on the right day, but nailing the launch is PITA as it's either wheel tramp/spin or creep off then nail it once rolling! never did seem to find a sweet spot for launching, but only had 4 runs so not too bad i guess!

Still my benchmark was being able to match or beat that White Focus RS and i did so that made me smile!;)

Was quite funny/bizzare driving back though as me n Dave swapped cars so i could have a go in his beemer, and it deffo seemed quite wierd seeing my own car infront & behind me on the M/way coming back:lol:, Bet you were thinking the same eh Dave;) Once rolling there's barely a *** paper between us in terms of pace between our two cars - difference being Dave's just doesn't "feel" turbocharged, it's just soooo smooth and there's no whistle from the turbo's, it just feels like a VERY strong 6 pot!!

Anyone got any footage of any of our cars running btw!??, Bet we'd all like to see/hear our cars going up the strip!:)

ha ha ha .....yeah when i was in front of you on the m1, i looked in the mirror and thought to myself.......aaah thats what my car looks like ....yeah its pretty sweet. rofl

amazing how mine and matts cars are entirely different in almost every way and yet they have almost identical straight line performance.
Tell you what, with how quiet your car is compared to mine, it's had me going on a paranoid trip with mine tonight!, I got most of the way home and decided to drop both front windows for a spell and the sheer noise of the whistling sound of the turbo that you can hear from outside the car is rather more noticeable than i thought it was, I had to go out for a 2nd run as i was sure that i'd got boost pressure leaking somewhere as it hisses soo much, but i guess it's always sounded like with the induction kit on, and i've never really noticed as the weathers been that crap since fitting the induction that i've never really driven much with the windows down so never really noticed it

it is quite audible isnt it , tell you what, you wouldn't be pulling 102 mph with a boost leak, that speed proves your power is very healthy, there's no way its under 285bhp imo.
Yeah fair comment!

it just seemed louder than i thought it was/remember it being, but like i say i rarely have the windows down (normally just have the climate cont on!), so when i heard it it kinda took me back:lol:

Folks round where i live must think "it's that idiot again" when they hear me coming home with that noise!

lol....

be interesting to try your car up the 1/4 with the standard air filter and then again with your induction kit fitted, your car definitely seemed stronger low down than i remember and a little more aggressive in its turbo delivery.
Been asking about how good my times are on SCN and it seems like there pretty good for my spec, but i'm also being told to get it mapped!!

Don't really fancy making it borderline un-driveable in the wet:rolleyes:

Si - you got uprated upper mounts on yours!??

I've posted on SCN asking how good or not my best was & there all saying that i should be able to better that time some, but tbh i only got 4 runs in so i was never able to nail the 60ft properly.

Obviously the MKII RS has the advantage of a proper LSD to aid traction off the line! What was his best terminal speed that you saw Si!??, i saw him run twice and both times it was 101mph.

What happened with Red zed!??

Funny you mention intake temps!

Dave said that about how we both seemingly lost outright pace and time on our 2nd runs and that he thought it was because of heat soak because we were sitting there engines running for ages waiting to go out!!

Hope Redzed's issues aren't big ones! That's always a worry when your doing something like Dragging/tracking ya car i guess though because your asking much more than usual of your car (unless your a full-time nutter!) so everything is under greater strain!!, it'll soon find any weaknesses won't it!!

Must admit the day has left me a bit conflicted as i know my car deffo has more to give in terms of times achievable etc, but it's the difficulty in laying the power i have effectively and i would still like to cut down on that damned wheel tramp too - i hate that as it sounds like somets about to break!!!

Everyone on SCN is telling me to get it mapped though Lol!!!

If i could get the car to lay the power better i might consider it and try podding again, but tbh i don't wanna compromise the car any further in terms of vibration/harshness inside which i risk doing if i stiffen things on the mount side any more!!

Tell ya what though, i can see a change of intake coming for atleast one of us;) Open cones in the engine bay are always gonna be a compromise i guess - especially if your not moving or going slow!!

. As for traction problems its a turbo car there all the sames means you have to learn how to feed the power. No nasp linear power here!
Yeah no sh*t!!!;)

Wish i'd have been able to get more runs now as i'm sure i could have gone better by mixing it up!

Still it was fun!

On the mounts front - i already have the lower mount/dogbone bush and SALK fitted, and tbh the fella that fitted them (Alex at AKS) said that the upper mounts don't really add THAT much more in terms of vibration in the cabin, but i'd hate to tip it from being something i can live with now - to something i hate if i did the upper mounts too - especially as there somet like ÂŁ150 a pop!!

Wheel tramp is what caused the engine to basically fall out of the Vag ZS when i took it up there. its so harsh. Watching you from the stands we could see your whole car juddering and your exhaust pipes were going mental.
Aha - Cheers Ross!

Always wondered just how bad it looked - now i know!

Deffo gonna have to look into further reducing it if i keep the car (that Black Audi RS4 that was there has set me off wanting one again!), but no way am i going solid mounts, will have to contact Alex at AKS again and ask him about uprated upper mounts again. Just that there ÂŁ150 a pop last i knew and i seem to recall i'd need two - it's all spend spend spend when you like cars isn't it!

Spose if i got it mapped it would be more prone to spinning rather than hopping about too , But then again that might just be me trying to justify getting it done in the 1st place!

I'm guessing a bit here, but i guess what Dave's saying (Much more so in the case of his beemer) is that the power delivery on his beemer is soooooo linear you can't even tell there are turbos on the car - it just goes like a very strong 6 potter!! I speak from expereince because we swapped cars and drove each others back from pod!

Mine is also reasonably linear, but there is a definite spike in the torque when full boost is achieved at approx 2500rpm, Dave's car doesn't have that spike in power it just seems to go any revs any gear totally smoothly!

If i could get my seatbox in the boot of a car like Dave's (which i can't as the boot is waaaay to shallow), then i would seriously consider a 335i myself going on how Daves drove, but alas my main hobby has screwed the pooch on that front as i'd never get my gear in the car! :(

I would just get a fast road/ track lower mount first. You side ones are like brand new with your car won't make much difference. Alex will tell you the same.

And map is a defo will keep up if not beat a rs4 once moving. And running costs and maintance of them is not worth it. IMO

Simon
Yeah the increased running costs would probaly make me wince -especially the increased frequency of visits to the petrol pumps!:(

Doesn't entirely put me off though, and it goes back to something Dave said on Saturday which nailed the way i see it too, in that he wanted a car that could just do it all/was quick/looks good, drives great etc all out of the box without having to spend spend spend, and his beemer does that!

I'd like to think that the RS4 would also tick every box like this too, but being honest i'll never have the money to make the swap so it's just a dream really and for the most part the leon ticks pretty much every box already, just that having owned it a while now i can see some areas where it's definitely lacking/could be better but i guess you could be like that about any car if you were picky enough!

As for mapping mine - only time will tell, i probably won't, but never say never eh!

Yeah the guys at Stattlers in Sheff said that i'd see an improvement in off/low boost fuel economy as the engine isn't having to work as hard!

Like i say - never say never, but assuming i have 280bhp'ish atm it's generally enough that the car still feels damned fast and hasn't gotten boring yet, but then again i think i'd have to be tapped in some way to get bored of it pace wise cos it don't hang about!

Sposei could do with somehow "trying"the car at 340bhp'ish and see how it is, how it copes etc & if i think it's too much - take it off!!

Well adding stickier tyres would be a mixed blessing at it would give greater traction (surely), but i could see the flip side being that if you get wheel tramp it might be even more violent!?!

I asked on SCN whether adding a proper LSD like a wavetrac or quaife would help with launching & straight line traction (obviously the RS has one), but everyone who responded said NO it won't help at all!!

Obviously we could further beef up the engine mounts to cut the wheel tramp out further, but this will definitely add to the noise/vibration in the cabin & that's not something i personally want if i'm honest as the car will soon become a pita to live with if it's virbating like mad and nosiy/rattly inside!

I've already done the Anti lift kit, the Virbatechnics solid rubber lower mount and dogbone bush, Obviously i could do uprated upper mounts too, but as Sie pointed out they'd probably be of little gain as my cars still relatively young so the mounts should still be in good condition anyway!!!

Really though for how often i'm likely to do stuff like dragging/launching like a loon is it really worth spending money trying to eliminate something that it isn't usually that bigger an issue on the road!??

By far & away the cheapest option is simply to stay away from the drag strip. Lol, that solves a lot of the problem ;)

Being serious though it comes Down to how much comfort your willing to sacrifice for a slightly quicker time doesn't it! If like me you like the least amount of noise and vibration in the car that you can get (other than the obvious extra noise associated with adding exhausts and induction kits) then your only going to go so far as you'll soon end up compromising the car for outright performance!

Obviously the softer mounts in the Leon and I assume sie's golf too are done to minimise the transmition of unwanted noise and vibration into the cabin to make the cars more civilised/ give them a more "quality" feel and be less harsh etc!
