Ive just bought a new laptop, what do I need(leads+software) to use it as a 'fault code reader'?

I already have a scangauge, would a laptop be better?

Cheers.

Just to read the codes I would have thought a scangauge would be just as good.

You could have some interesting info on the laptop screen from the OBD2 port though if you have some decent softwear.

Thats what I thought.

Just wondering what software and leads people are using.
OBD2 or OBDII

You can get it all through eBay.

IIRC the scangauge end of its own lead is a USB plug.

Cheers Steve, Ill order one of those....
What software you got?
Might get myself one now that my laptop doesnt require being plugged into the mains to work!!
I want to get in on this as well. What do you think of this:

Without knowing the product this might be a difficult question, but do you think the information provided by this device would make sense to someone with average(ish) knowledge (me)?
