Apple MG in Gravesend invited me some time ago to have a spin in the MG6 when it came in, so yesterday I popped over & took out their SE model (mid of the range).
Now I'm not technical like some guys on here I'm more able to make notes on trim spec, model spec etc but I will try my best!
I have to say I was very impressed with the way it drove & no rattles, squeaks, creeks etc. I was allowed to drive it hard around a roundabout & it stuck like glue perfectly, steering is very responsive (not too light or hard). I did find that from a slow speed/standing start that pick up was a bit slow but this I guess is because it is a new engine. Brakes good though I did not stamp on them, engine is very smooth & pretty quiet sounds more refined than it's K series predessessor.

The dash has plenty of features that arn't neccessarialy mentioned in the brochure. Some trip features from the ZT are present & a feature that knows the exact speed limit where you are & displays you when you exeed it plus the feature on the ZT260 where you can pre-set your own speed limit. "SE" spec SatNav is very good apart from you can't submit a postcode which may proove annoying but screen displays date, time, outside temp etc plus all audio features & probably more. The TSE has the standard reversing camera & more features on the Satnav I believe.
"SE" seat trim is cloth which I recon ought to be half leather as the TSE is full leather, carpet is worse than the last MGR cars with virtually no pile & cheapens the interior. I think a little more use of additional colours in the dash & or door trim would be helpfull to give a contrast which IMO was one of MGR's good features.

Apart fom floor mats & I think mudflaps currently there are no options which IMO will need to change as many people will want to personalise their own car so lets hope this is addressed. I look forward to seeing the saloon & hopefully a possible 2.4V6!

Top spec priced at £2K more than the ZS180 from old but same quality or even better handling, much more spec & a bigger car anyway so all round good value.

Went out in our local demonstrator on Saturday, just to see how it behaves under normal circumstances, rather than being ragged around the track and I must say, my view has changed very little.

As Andy says above, the engine felt rather tight and 'lacking' by comparison to the mules we had on the track day, but the car had only covered 200 miles, so I accept this is not indicative of how it will be after a few thousand miles.

Rear visibility was better than I had recalled on the track, but is still noticeably limited - the disadvantage of a fastback.

Road noise was minimal, cabin creaks non-existent and all the buttons that I needed seemed to be to hand.

Cabin visibility when performing reversing around corners, 3-point turns and parallel parking all seemed good - the extra tall wing mirrors really being useful there.

Externally the paint (pearl black) and panel fit looked superb.

I was surprised that the dealer had bought the SE rather than TSE as a demonstrator (bearing in mind how much more you get) and was likewise surprised that the engines hadn't been 'run in' on a test bed so that the proper feel of the car could be gauged from day 1 as a demonstrator.

My dealer let slip that whilst at the factory last week, he had seen a hybrid engine on test and also seen the MG3 and MG5 in the flesh... although strictly off limits. I think diesel, V6 and hybrid options will follow, though probably not until 2012 at the earliest.

Still a great car and despite it's size, very nimble!

Don't know what your ones like on turning circle Adrian, but after the ZS, I think anything would feel good doing a three point turn!!!

Sounds like the SE, is the demo spec. Did put my name down for a test drive, have to wait to see if it happens.

I only got the test drive as a result of a request on the website, so you should hear soon - failing that, give Martins of Winchester a call - they're just off the M3/A34 junction, less than an hour away.

I got a call last week from an equity I made about 3-4 weeks ago, booked a test drive next Saturday at 11am in the 1.8.

2-litre petrol seems an odd choice when you have a 1.8T already...
I never chose it.

I suspect all K variants will be discontinued in the not too distant future.
