Anybody else own a Trophy Blue 160?

I love it - trouble is that my husband tends to hide it at this time of year! Summer can't come soon enough, or at least no salt on the roads!

Max :D

Get yer own back, and hide his XT385 when he gets it!

Oh!

Don't give her ideas!

BTW, I'm very pleased with the EVO, the ZT has something to live upto before I part with it!! :)

Now that's a surprise! :(

I bought my wife a Yellow Trophy, the blue looked good under the showroom lights, but the yellow was much more eye catching IMO, I find it hard to get to drive the car , but I get it occasionally when she needs more space, I then lend her the Disco.

What do you think of the Disco? What other 4 wheel drives did you trial before settling on the LR? Just curious!

Hi

Had a buzz in the Trophy for the last two days. While the car polisher is away. :) We are still very pleased with the car. :D

Not heard from Jerry yet, so he doesn't know he has to clean the car yet! On a serious note has anybody experieced any corrosion problems on their MGF's yet?

Disco Choice

There wasn't a choice as the Disco is the best 4x4xfar, I've been lucky enough for the last 13+ years to have a free choice of company car (must have 4 seats min.) so I've been through renault 21TI, Peugot MI16, Calibra 16V, Disco mk1, Disco II GS7 Tdi5.
The previous disco had minor problems with oil seals and turbo bypass valves etc. major problem with transfer box eating internals, (but I think I caused the problem by changing from Hi to Low ratio when travelling to fast it made the car leap in the air or so it felt) tyres last for ever.
The new one is more refined (air suspension on rear) and has a smoother engine.
But this will be the last company car, so in 18 mnths I'll be looking at MG ZT as a replacement. I hope I will still get a discount from the Ex Rover Employees Car purchase plan.

Some varied vehicles. We once tried a Disco, loved it but wanted the V8 - hence no go. I bought the Trophy through the employer discount scheme and gained a very substantial discount. Why:

1. They weren't selling!
i. Too expensive.
ii. New model around the corner.
iii. It's an MGF!
2. It's a LE!

Now the talk is of TF, new springs, what's wrong with the old ones? Plus a new body, I like mine the way it is! :)

According to "Dieter the Data" the F can suffer from surface corrosion on the underside componentry - especially the subframes and the coolant pipework. Mike Satur does replacement pipes in alluminium i believe (could be wrong). The other place to look is the windscreen surround. Apparently this area isn't as well protected as the rest of the bodywork and stone chips here on an early F will show the telltale "cobweb" like strands in the paintwork.

Lastly, the main area for rust is the exhaust nuts, try replacing them (asap) with Mike Saturs' KatKit:

Will take a peek now - the cars is currently outside roof down - think I best go and put it away and inspect those nuts before the next shower! :D

LOL :)

TF

AS Jerry said, he liked the new TF. Sorry but there are bits I think are cheap looking - the black bits front and rear. Also the chicken wire in the vents. I would not change the Trophy for this!

On the subject of rust, has anyone performed any rustproofing to their cars i.e. waxoyl or similar ?
Would the 'F' benefit from such a process ?
Mike
IIRC Brown & Gammons offer a full waxoyl service. Can't remember how much it is, and it's probably too late for Scarlet now anyway. :(
