mg zr lumpy tick over

hi all, i have a 1.4 2003 mg zr. recently when i start the car it is running real lumpy on tick over (almost as if it is over choking) it does this for a couple of minutes, revs itself up and clears. after that it runs perfect ..... any suggestions anybody ?????
