Hi all, think i originally posted in the wrong section. My wife's ZR160 is making some funny noise & sounds like a tractor.
Someone has told me the rattle could be to do with the v.i.s motor's on th inlet, does the 160 have these & where are they located?
I can feel the very pronounced tapping by touching the inlet manifold, i have used good old google but all i can seem to find is problems relating to the zs & zt nothing on zr.

The VIS motors are to do with the V6 engine used in the ZS & ZT. The problem here is the VVC mechanism and is normal, not heard a quiet 160 in my 3 or so years going to shows and meeting other members. Yo can replace it but it will more than likely happen again
Ok, so are they expensive & easy to replace? Will this also have an affect on performance?
My partners has the same issue, is it mainly when its cold? You can pick up the inlets fairly cheap and its not too bad if your handy with a spanner
Yes im not shy when it comes to working on cars, mainly (Vauxhall) as this is what i drive.
Rover engines seem some what more complex to Vauxhall's though but nothing i wont be able to get my head around.
Just out of interest where is the diag port on the zr's?
There is an OBDII port just to the left under the steering wheel and near to the centre console :)

Exactly the same (tractor) or diesel engine is the easiest way to explain it.

This is a new one on me and I've beenaround for donkeys, and we've had a 160 for 3 years and a VVC mgf for 2.

You must have had some excellent unabused examples :)
I've had two 160's and they both rattled.. didn't seem to affect perfomance either.. Gitta agree with Luke on this one i've never heard a quiet one lol nothing to worry about!!:)
Well, it seems the general opinion is that these are noisey, so i guess she will have to live it.
Just had my 1st drive of her car, i was well shocked at just how quick these little blighters are, very impressed. Got me thinking now about selling my vectra lol.
I have the same. Sounds just like a diesel. Never found lacks power either. Have asked around myself but thats just the way it is. Gladly mine isnt as loud as the youtube.
