Hi everyone after bit of advise please, im thinking of getting one of the above to use as a spare trackday car and to rent out for the same. Im really into trackdays etc and at mo i use a Evo VII RS Sprint and a MK5 Escort RS2000 which im hoping to use for a bit of low end racing soon! Really i just wondered if anyone used one and if so how they find it and what mods work well, im not planning on any major engine mods really as i would guess the performance will be more less the same as the Escort (quicker than a Ford ST150 on the straights and same as my mates Clio Cup 168) Of course i know of the K-series weak points but i do all the work my self so thats not a problem. The plan i have in mind is to strip it bear removing A/C and elec's etc but i will most likely leave the ABS in for when others use it.

I also have a ZR160 which is having some work done at the moment, the plans are basically as you say...take the weight out of the car so interior gets taken out, AC removed completly, airflow box taken out and cold air feed a filter from the fog light, potentially look at the VVC exhaust cam but you will only see 6-8bhpfor that modification but this ideally needs hooking up to a decent manifold and exhaust system to see good gains.
Expect 175bhp but more grunt....
Thanks mate got one at weekend MK2 160 really happy with it all tho im surprised its not got the all out pull of the Escort but it is more responsive on and off the throttle. Gonna get trackday booked asap after service just to see how it feels before i got rip it all apart
Cheers mate much same as im thinking, might look into the camshaft also the 160 seems down on performance against the Escort

160vvc is very restrictive, under powered but still with the right modifications of decent suspension, brakes and engine work it will still upset alot of different drivers around a track due to great handling through corners

Most 160s are down on power. The power output Rover claimed for these was optimistic, in reality its more like 150bhp as been proven many times on dynos.

My ZR has a ported head along with Piper 270 exhaust cam, port-matched inlet manifold, 4-2-1 exhaust manifold, sports cat and a remap.
I reckon its about 180bhp / 200 Nm, on the straights it should be somewhere along with Clio 182's and Integra DC2's.
