MG LOLA EX257 - TESTING UPDATE – LAUSITZRING, GERMANY

The MG Lola EX257 completed a three day test recently in preparation for its outing in Le Mans in June.

The weather remained fine for MG XPOWER drivers Anthony Reid, Warren Hughes, Jonny Kane and Kevin McGarrity to tackle the Grand Prix Circuit and the high speed testing ground. Also driving was Julian Bailey and following the test he commented: "The test has been fantastic! The engine is running better and the whole package is really coming together. We didn’t get much of a chance to show our pace last year but this time around I think we will surprise a few people and have the potential to be a winner in the LMP675 class and outright."

MG anchorman Mark Blundell was unable to drive the car due to existing commitments at the Formula One Grand Prix in Imola. However, Michelin who supply the tyres for the programme were present and much valuable data was gathered.

The test proved very successful and the team experienced no major problems. Frank Dernie, chief engineer at Lola Cars International, said: "We carried out some engine mapping and durability testing. The engine worked well and although we still have some development work to do, we should be in good shape for the official practice session on 5th May."

Commenting, Rob Oldaker, managing director, MG Sport & Racing added: "The 2002 Le Mans programme is looking very encouraging indeed and we are all eagerly awaiting the official test weekend to gauge our progress versus the competition."
