pinched from autosport....
MG Sport & Racing Commercial Manager David Jones is quoted as saying '...we are trying to put something together. I'm 95% confident we will be able to finalise something this week' If it happens, it is apparently unlikely to be put together in time for the first meeting though..

maybe a way back for jason plato?

Excellent - Excellent - Excellent - Excellent.

Thanks Kev for bringing this to our attention! Won't be a bad thing if Plato does drive one. He certainly knows how to do the Biz - better him on our side than theirs! :D
so many people have been slagging him off that it would be good to see him prove them wrong.
a champion should defend his title.

I agree, crazy that the team he won for just dumped him! Should be a great season if there's more EX259's out there though. Wasn't long ago when we were worried about the MGR team being there! If Plato's in one the sparks will fly! :)
Kev - no further details on the project I take it. Could it be a two pronged attack. That's to say ZS and R75 racing in the BTCC!

You really rate Plato. Me I'm more into proper racing when you race and don't make contact. Plato should go to Wisbech and play "Bangers and Smash" in an old Ford Zodiac or Humber Super Snipe. Sorry guys, don't rate this guy. If he was so good surely he would have been signed up for this season!

Anyway, it will be good news to see 4 cars representing MG-Rover during the coming season.

Kev

Can you give me more details? I want to place the story on site when I return from my break! :)
I may have jumped the gun

this a quote from gareth howell
"Don't start sending congrats yet , Colin and I were invited along to Thruxton, but we are both still looking at other deals, and I know MG will be looking at a hell of alot of drivers, so I for one am not popping champagne yet!!...............(would be nice though!)
But who are these other possible drivers ?

Any ideas?

21 year-old BTCC driver, Gareth Howell, from Kent, has been nominated for membership of the BRDC 'Rising Stars' scheme. Membership of this initiative is strictly by invitation only, and as the title suggests, drivers are selected based on their ability, and the likelihood of them achieving future success.
Members of the Rising Star scheme will continue to be assessed by the BRDC Board of Directors, and their progress monitored. If a sufficient display of talent and potential is displayed, then they are likely to be recommended to be elected to full BRDC membership.

Howell finished fifth in the BTCC Production class in 2001, and has previously competed in the Ford Credit Fiesta Zetec Championsip, becoming the youngest ever race winner in the series during the 1999 season. He is expected to be confirmed alongside Colin Turkington when full details of MG's 2002 campaign are unveiled on Thursday
I am going to the press launch of MGs sporting activities in 2002
on Thursday. I should get all the info first hand!!

Good for you - I'm sure we would all apprecaite the Le Mans and BTCC info.

On a personal note, would like info for the site too - Motorsport section!

Sorry Gerry but all my work will go on my own BTCC site or in the motor sport secton at:
http://www.mgcars.org.uk/racing/index.html

I will keep you all updated as to where you can find info and pictures!

Perfectly understandable Kelvin. I'm sure Autosport - crashnet - AA and the MGR press releases will provide enough info.

I have to say mgcars.org doesn't fulfill my "Motorsport needs" at the moment.

We do seem to have more info on drivers and teams on this Forum than elsewhere from the Racing enthusiasts, which seem to be lacking over there! However, I'm sure the NEW MG owners recruited will change things however.

Its nice to know you appreciate (not) the hundreds of hours I and others have put into some of those pages!

I KNOW the effort and time put into them is VERY HIGH and the result is OK (see below). Out of interest how many are involved with the running of the site?

Edit. Kelvin I do like your pics very much as I've said before. I know my site is constructed with Frontpage (one theme only XPower - without using the MGR XPOWER LOGO). What I don't like and it is a personal thing is the GREEN - I know you will say BRG ect - but that is my point of view. Just like others hate my colour combinations and I know they do).

Strange really after I'd put www.jerryflint.net together and became interested in Yahoo, built this site did I learn of the owners site and it was only from a comment made by either Dave or Kevin Neil. Was a little too late by then.

Open minds that's what we all need. I'm sure all our sites compliment each other very well!
