2 months ago, lots of work on chassis bushes, calipers etc and 2 new tyres due to a bogdged 4 wheel alignment!

600 notes!

1 month ago, aircon compressor unit decides to call it a day!!

400 notes!

TODAY, slight misfire turning to bogging down etc then misfire again!!!

Not bad for 115k miles though, no VIS issues either which is a shock!

Why me?

well, I was on my iPhone at the time so limited room to see what I'm typing

3 new calipers, new rear trailing arm bushes, 2 new tyres and 4-wheel allignment, fix air-con (finding leakage in system)

The Second time was a new air-con unit (not re-con) and 3 hours labour

Hopefully just a spark plug or Coil issue!!

I wanna do it myself, but living in norfolk - who do ya go too???

Sorry to hear this.

I know from my own experience that some garages (not all) and many franchises (ATS, Kwik Fit) try to take advantage of MG owners with the words "cannot get the parts" "obsolete" and "no technical support" etc etc before charging exorbitant rates. JCT in Wakefield (a former MG dealer) comes to mind. They might suggest a £550 inlet manifold replacement for a fairly simple VIS repair for example. I've seen another post from a guy who had his entire alarm system replaced after a garage said it was the 'only solution' It was clearly the common 'water in the sounder box' issue which I repaired with the boards help in one evening FOC. My alarm is still working perfectly 18 months later.

I've had some great help on this board and generally tracked down parts and service at 'normal' prices - two garages I have had contact with in my area (West Yorkshire) are Tony Banks on the Ring Road, LS12 and AA Autosport in Shipley. Both know MGR's intimately and are very nice to work with - intelligent, courteous, helpful beyond the call. Will find parts or fit yours.

And I think that's the point of MG ownership now - a bit of leg work at the beginning to find out the common issues and then source local (ish) garage support you can trust. Then stick with the board for experience/technical support and contacts. Also its important that you post back you own experiences for the benefit of others in return.

For me, the last 3 years of the Zed have not been a problem - a few niggles but really with a bit of asking around I've been happy with the costs and it is certainly cheaper than my previous car, a BMW 3 series - I used to dread the service coming around.

Don't get me wrong, I personally don't think I've been ripped off or overcharged!

The local guy to me I kinda know out of work anyway, well respected and has a perfect reputation

It's just on my RS ownership (10 years of), I could do EVERYTHING myself expcept for summer/winter tuning :(

People DID try it on with my RS, but most stuff is normal everyday Escort parts lol

Know what you mean - I had a Mkll RS2000 (droopsnoot) back in the day (showing my age now kids) and later a custom Orion RS - it started life as a company directors Ghia with all the extras, computer etc then he went totally mad and had Ford switch all the RS stuff onto it - suspension, brakes etc. That was a real sleeper and I loved to smoke Vauxhalls in it. Good times!
