How reliable is your computer?

As above- how reliable is your comp in term's- how long you can go without it crashing/locking/freezing up?, and is there any one thing that seems to reliably cause your comp to lock- or switch itself off effectivley due to supposed "fatal errors!"

Mine is patchy at best!- sometimes it can go for day's without hassle- other time's it will fall down/crash maybe 1-3 times per night!

One thing that does cause it to spaz out and freeze up within about 5 mins without fail is if im playing- even the most basic games online- or indeed- a mate o mine lent me tiger woods 2006, and that would'nt play for more than about 3 mins at a time without causing my comp to crash!, and the ONLY way round each time it happens is to turn the comp off at the power button- and restart it! :bh

Anyone else have problems like this? -or is it just me!????????

I've only been trying to play a simple 2d puzzle game as o latley- but as i say- i can't play it for more than 5 mins without the comp crashing/locking up! :bh :bh :bh :bh :bh :bh

I can see the comp suffering death by shotgun/sledgehammer & fire if this keeps up!- it's nearly been out the window a few time's- i can tell ya! :frust

Computers! - great WHEN there working- a royal pain in the arris when there not! :bh :bh :bh

Well the desicion has been made & the money spent! (well flex of the plasitc is more accurate! )

Got myself a compaq pc with 17"tft & free printer! :D :beerchug

Hopefully now i'll be able to enjoy some reliable computing/net browsing/game playing/ photoshopping!

Finger's crossed! :D
The Compaq is a good PC.

One tip for you - make yourself a recovery DVD! The recovery info is stored on the HDD in a hidden partition - if you need a replacement HDD then you'll need to wait for the disks to arrive, and they can sometimes take a couple of weeks to come in from Compaq. If you've made the disks then you just need to replace the HDD and recover it using the made DVD. Check out www.pcservicecall.co.uk if you want to know more or just PM me.
Hmm- sounds like i've made a pretty good choice then! :D

did'nt have any trouble transfering data from one comp to other particularly!, asked guy in shop about that when i was looking to buy the comp- and he just told me that i'd need an ethernet cable, & set up each comp for I.C.S!

Once i'd done that, and found out why it would'nt do it at 1st (cable not quite fully clicked in!)- it was an absolute doddle! :D

Was still up till about 2am faffing about setting it all up! :doh :doh :doh

Thought i'd be shattered at work today, but been quite perky- to say i had practically no sleep!

Prob nod off early later on though!

Just hope this pc proves reliable!

My Mac is very reliable!

not if it takes 4.5 years to reply to a thread!
Only time I reboot any of my PCs is when they have had updates applied and I keep getting nagged to restart . . . I usually withstand the naggs for at least a week.
i actually restart my netbook every month or two, just shut it let it hibernate.

Reliability and speed are different things!
I was going to revive the Babbage Counting Machine thread but this will do.
Haha, I started with Macs when I bought a white Macbook off of a mate for £500. I upgraded the memory, claimed on the warranty and had it reshelled (looked like new).

I am now on a 17" Macbook Pro, lovely bit of kit. THe 4 year old white one is still going strong, the GF is still using it every day.

If it's been hibernating then when you power it back up it resumes from where it left off . . . so it isn't a restart. :D
I think he means it only gets a proper restart every month or two and lets it hibernate inbetween.

Thats how I read it anyway.

Ah, you are probably right :D
A lot of random pc crashing is down to overheating, which is why it will only do it when you start playing a game etc give the fans a good blow out, get all the dust out of the case etc, and get rid of anything by microsoft ;)
I have an ancient home made 1.2ghz thunderbird system running XP, its main use is for the car washes DVR/CCTV setup with 2 DVR cards, it has only been switched off twice in 6 years, once due to a blown PSU and the other for a failed hard drive :D

I will let it off though as the hard drives run 24/7 constantly writing new cctv files over the old ones.

Its other use is to play royalty free radio to the customers outside :D

A true warrior of a PC.
You got internet in your car wash?

yup:) cant be bothered with all the restarting malarky, mind you it does only take about 30 seconds right enough but means all my work stays open

and dragging up a thread as old as this one just to say his mac was good seemed a bit strange..................
Mr. Miserable.

Not really, thats what forums are for. There isn't always something new to discuss is there, so lets drag up old threads and chat.
