Air con compressor started groaning last Tuesday and I have been using a Hire Car since then, while awaiting Compressor, Pulley and Compressor Clutch parts, some of which I got shipped from Canada, (thanks to Sean Hyland).
Compressor and pulley assembly now dismantled by my local dealer and we need to source 2 parts urgently:
Magnetic Clutch/Coil MGR Part no: JPB100010 Motorcraft Part no:YB519
Ring 30mm MGR part no: JPB100030
Can anyone help before I call Canada again?
These parts not available quickly via XPart!
Air Con in the Astra Hire Car is brilliant!

I replaced mine - it's just a standard Visteon FS10 Compressor isn't it..? The exact model is on there somewhere.
I would've thought therefore a Visteon supplier in Uk would be able to help you with parts.

Sorry don't have details of a specific supplier as an a/c specialist got mine for me (at a much lower cost than Xpart). I just wondered why your dealer went down the strip it down/rebuild route. That snatch plate is a fussy beast to work right - if the gap isn't right (or it has got hot at any stage) then the electromagnetic magic won't work.

It almost certainly started groaning because a lot of MGR allocation of this compressor were never filled with the right amount of oil from the factory.

Autoclimate will be able to help you or at least direct you to one of their service centres locally.

Hi Ed

AFAIK no one really knows, Solution is to replace it and either buy a second to keep as a spare or keep the thinner belt as an emergency backup!

I have a vague theory that the underdrive pully kit might help as it slows the overall belt speed at the alternator. But I would be worried that slowing the compressor speed might not help the performance of the aready marginal AC!

THe problem would seems to stem from a wave on the belt when the air con is switched on causeing the tensioner to flick and momentarily slackening the belt. :beerchug.Suggest you try keeping the revs down when yo switch it on.

i've had a closer look today and it isn't the aircon pulley.

the idler pulley bottom right viewed from the front is the culprit.

i had to change the belt a while back because it had frayed from the front. The slipping was audibly evident from start up and was fine before parking on both occasions.

What is happening on start up is the belt skips forward on the idler pulley. The pulley has a lip at the front that then shreds the belt. If ever you hear a squeel at start up, stop imediately. Put the car in 5th and roll it forwards whilst re aligning the belt like a bicycle derailier.

hope this helps, didn't need a new belt this time.

Erm.. I hope I'm not being stupid, but are you rolling it forward in 5th with the engine running and slipping the clutch?

Number in USA for Compressors is 001 800 993 7339.
I have now got a spare set of everything that goes on front of the compressor:Clutch, Pulley(complete with bearing) and Clutch Coil/Magnet.
I'll keep them in stock for personal use, (hope not!), or for anyone who needs them .
The old Pulley Bearing and Clutch Coil/Magnet were virtually destroyed, looks like they burnt out somehow!

my a/c went a few weeks back due to the fan had stopped working. anyway fixed the fan, now just one speed fast. needed a new clutch which was about £25 fine and the bearing had also gone on the pully. as i am too tight to fork out for a new pully i just changed the bearing. my local bearing supplier can get them no probs.

and this was on a ZT260 V8?

Do you have a bearing reference number?

Yes please, if you would - it could prove very useful in the future for this suprisingly common failure item on the V8 engine.....

Cheers :)

Can anybody help with this problem? I have a ZT260 and the airconditioning compressor of my car seized. I bought the car recently from a Honda dealer (is had been traded in on a hybrid!). The dealer insisted on fixing the car himself. It took more than a week to find a new compressor for 600 GBP in the UK. The dealer reported that also some hoses were leaking and had to be changed for new ones.
When the car was repaired the same phenomena occurred within 10 miles: the V8 started idling very irregularly (a sign that something was seizing) and the belt tensioner started moving up and down very fast (also a sign that something was wrong). I decoupled the compressor as soon as I could by pushing the off button of the airco, but the odor was so bad that I suspect that the compressor has seized again. Is anybody familiar with this problem? Any advice, any ideas?
