Hi all,

I'm currently doing a 1.4 to 1.8 vvc conversion on my zr, but i was wondering if anybody knows if i could fit a rover 75 1.8 gearbox into the zr or would i have to source out a 1.8 gear box from a zr ?

Hi and welcome to the forum.

IIRC the 75/ZT box is different to all the other MG/Rovers being a Gartag unit.

There is a lot of info on the PG1 gearbox on www.rovertech.net

Now you have an R65 gearbox on a 1.4 engine, you could use it on 1.8 VVC engine with a 1.4 engine flywheel, but the clutch and gearbox would be underrated.

You could use a gearbox from Rover 75, but it is extremely heavy and you would need custom lenght drive axles to be made.

Just use a reliable and light PG1 gearbox from an MGF or any K-series 1.8 litre Rover engine with the exception of Rover 75 and MG ZT(T),
