Anyone know of a good one?
Finally had enough of our Sagem one today - sister has same model and they have both been seriously crap.

Regular or HD? I know a lot of them are glitchy. I have to completely reset mine once a fortnight to get the teletext and closed captioning back.

EDIT: oops...sorry, I was thinking set-top box, not recorder. I thought Sagem were good?
I just use Windows Media Center on the computer to record Freeview, works very nicely :)

It's a good piece of kit. Nice TV guide, very easy to program etc but the Nvidia codec somehow disappeared from my system so it's stopped working. :<

That sounds a bit technical! LOL

Our TV is HD ready, with freeview built in - don't know why it isn't HD freeview (probably just a con to get you to buy a box?)

This is our second Sagem one - reviews seem to be at both ends of spectrum. Maybe we've been unlucky twice (three times if you include my sisters). It'll do things like stop recording series, but of course you don't realise untill you've watched 20 episodes and realise it didn't bother with episode 21! :bh:
Both have frequently "stuck", meaning a reboot, sometimes recorded 1 min of a programme, display shows REC for ages after a programme should have finished. Rebooting and checking library shows that it hadn't recorded at all.
Basically allsorts of annoying crap.
This afternoon it stuck on the library whilst it was meant to be recording - damned thing is now in wheelie bin!

Not really, it means I don't have to bother with a TV or a recorder or any of the cables or anything technical. Just use my computer that I am using anyway, currently have my web browser window on the left and the TV window on the right - only difficult bit is that you have to plug in a USB stick and find the Windows Media Centre icon in the menu to start it running. To use, it is the easiest and most reliable recorder I've ever used.

That's a pity, cause I think they're a neat solution for recording programs.
The quality of electronic hardware has actually deteriorated over the past few years. Buy and throw away market etc. I've had the same Sony DVD recorder attached to my TV for the past 7 years and it's been in constant daily use. I never even switch it off!! You'd think the hard drive or the fan would have gone by now but no. Try buying something similar today and see how long it lasts you.
