As FP2002 is giving me a few headaches. I'm going to attempt to change the site to a Dreamweaver based site.

If I experience any problems are there any experts out there?:help:

The only advice I can think of is that which we always have to remind pupils of at school.

Make sure that you have a back-up of the original in case it all goes pear shaped.

Dreamweaver

I can help you if you need any advice, please feel free to e-mail me at any time. Dreamweaver is a far superior editor to FP2002, you'll find it much easier to use and its far more powerful.

I don't think you'll have any problems, as Dreamweaver is very easy to use once you get to grips with the front end.

Good luck

Clay

Thanks for the help.

Looking at Dreamweaver noticed that there is now a MX version. £598.

Can't afford that, is it much improved over DW4?

Having difficulties importing the site into DM4 from FP. :(

Dreamweaver

Front Page uses Wizards to write allot of the dynamic HTML script, when you import the site to other editors you will find you'll have allot of problems converting the files to straight HTML.

As you know Front Page only runs on servers running front page server extension, namely NT servers. When you convert the file to Dreamweaver you will have to set-up all the form/response pages again as this will not recognise any of the front page script.

Dreamweaver produces clean HTML script, which enables you to import the files into any editor. Front Page is never recommended in the professional circles and generally is considered unfit for the purpose it is intended for.

You may find it easier to stick with the format it is in at the moment and re-develop the new site from scratch in Dreamweaver. I had a simular problem last year when a client came to us with a Front page site that didn't work properly. I spent three week trying to get the site converted, in the end we had to start again from scratch.

Flash MX - Dreamweaver MX

Dreamweaver MX and Flash MX are brilliant!

Macomedia have done a good job with the front end of Flash MX. Flash is now much more user friendly. The animation tools are excellent, easily on par with most of the top animation software on the market.

Thanks

Thanks Clay

Looks as though I've a job on my hands. I expect MX is comptible to DW4.

What would a professional charge to do the job - bearing in mind the site is about 120 begs large and 100 or so pages? I know, I would have to sell the ZT to finanace it!

Dreamweaver MX is backwards compatible, as is Flash MX.

You will probably be charged about 6,000 for the site and extra for whatever back office connectivity you may be running. I would say its probably about 2 weeks work, most agencies charge 550 - 1,000 pound per day.

Your best bet is to get in contact with a good freelance web designer/developer as the normally charge between 25 - 35 pounds per hour. I'll dig out some numbers of good web developers I've used in the past if you like.

Er - I'll just think about that for a second.

Roverman, the ZT is a fantastic car though.

Strange thing is with FP2002, the site needs to resolve after the upload - info is passed to & fro. I've always had a few problems with NTL on a ntl line. So today I went via Hong Kong ISP thru our other BT line to the server - problem solved after moving servers with www.venturesonline.com :(

Will still look at self teaching myself Dreamweaver4. Need to buy a book on the subject.

Visited your site before, another good job. :D

Your working for the wrong company, most London agencies charge at least that, we do, and were competitive. I used to work for Interbrand and they charge that per person on a daily rate. I'll point you in the right direction if you like.

Besides they have to pay me? I specialise in 3D Visualisation and animation so perhaps are pricing structure is a little different.

You have me to thank when it comes to the world cup logo. You're all probably sick of it by now. I helped design it three years ago, I can't believe its come around so quickly?

There are loads of ****E agencies out there, and to be honest with you the crap agencies

NTL Servers

The problem with front page is it needs so many server
extension its untrue. Most ISP's don't know how to set
the servers up correctly.

As you may be aware there are so many permission settings on NT servers its hard to track down which ones are causing the problems. It may be that your re-routing to a server that is set
up properly, this is why I hate Front Page? Its hard to find good ISP's that understand how the server extentions are set up.

New Site

It looks as though I'll have to attempt to build the site from scratch. This is going to take me some time, as initially I thought I could import the site and then modify it.
Consequently, if you can suggest new pages or you have information that you would like to see, please let me know. :help:
The topic is still the same new MG's and motorsport:auto: .
Rovers will be mentioned under MGR News as before.:tsk
So today's a day off from the computer, need to wash the car before it :zap: no doubt!
 even more Smilies loaded!

BTW:The existing FP based site will be updated as usual, until the new one is live!

Just started this project - keep starting again though. What do you think of the Frames type menu for websites?

I like it - but I'm having real difficulties putting it together. Think of the current homepage but much faster loading without the Frontpage links slowing things down. :xxrofl:

I HATE frames... They look messy, cause problems and oh, did I mention that they look messy... Take a look at all the mainstream corporate sites out there today... How many use frames?...:D:D

Just my opinion of course...

Frames

Cant say I'm a fan of frames they don't look too smart. Stick with dreamweaver though rather than front page it gives you much cleaner HTML
