Comuter Query !

1693 Views 6 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Keosk
In my Task Manager Processes I have six instances of svchost.exe running as follows:

3,904k local service, 3,712k net service, 22,432k system, 6,124k net service, 5,304k system, 5,628k system

Whilst I appreciate what svchost.exe does, (well sort of), my query is, do I need to be running all of these instances?

Probably!

I got scared by it way back when. I thought that duplicate = virsuses but it's just a generic network process iirc. I'll see how many I have running on my home pc as there are none on the work one :s
Thats when a son in law, that works with computers comes in handy!!!!!!

Depends on what services are being hosted in each of those instances. If they had their names displayed it would be a lot easier to work out but in reality services don't actually do anything most of the time, for example one might be a printing service - unless you print something then it is just an item in the list so there is no reason to try and remove them unless you can see that one is using excessive processing power or resources.
OK cheers guys. I'll leave things as they are then.
malwarebytes.org if you are worried. In my experience, that either fixes any issue or it's time to reinstall windows.
Nowt to worry about. I've often get several instances of SVhost. But in the past, running AVG in safe mode has picked up nasty stuff on my computer that it missed in normal boot.
