Were the Gaskets inplace on both valves?

This can cause your problem.:)
I think they were, I'll have to open them up again to have a check.

Have you checked if the path that the throttle cable takes is free and that the cable isn't snagging on anything ? it was causing my problem with idle revs . . .
When I first tried to diagnose the problem I checked the cable. I can't imagine it is due to that just because it only becomes an issue in heavy queueing traffic when the car hasn't moved much in an hour or so.

The worst case the revs built upto 5k idle before I could park up (I was in the tunnel under Brussels).

TPS might need a clean.
What's the TPS?
